HVAC Service Manager
Location: Salt Lake City, UT
Compensation: $100k–$125k base plus short-term incentive plan
About The Role:
As a Service Manager, you will lead a team of HVAC technicians and dispatchers delivering emergency service, preventative maintenance, retrofits, and system upgrades for commercial and industrial customers. You will own the operating performance of your group—driving gross profit, managing labor costs, and ensuring your team meets contractual commitments on time and at a high standard.
This role sits at the center of field operations, customer relationships, and business development within an established mechanical service contractor. What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of field technicians and dispatchers across commercial and industrial service operations
- Drive operating unit profitability by managing labor costs, maximizing output per labor hour, and ensuring cost-effective use of equipment and materials
- Oversee delivery of emergency service calls, preventative maintenance programs, retrofits, and mechanical system upgrades
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships, responding to service issues and resolving problems to protect long-term satisfaction
- Manage job scheduling, dispatching, and field logistics to keep projects on time and within budget
- Monitor billing, close out completed work orders, and manage cash flow to hit budget targets
- Support the sales team by generating service leads, identifying upgrade opportunities, and providing technical input on proposals
- Forecast workforce needs, labor requirements, and equipment investments based on historical data and business plans
- Conduct regular team meetings, review operational performance, and report findings and recommendations to senior leadership
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all field operations
About You:
- 4+ years of experience with commercial HVAC and mechanical systems including service, maintenance, and system upgrades
- 2+ years of demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop a field service team
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, building codes, and industry standards
- Proven ability to manage P&L performance including labor costs, gross profit, and budget accountability
- Experience with service dispatching, job scheduling, and field logistics
- Customer-focused with strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Comfortable managing competing priorities in a fast-paced service environment
- Ability to collaborate across departments including sales, purchasing, and operations
