Location: Columbus, OH

Compensation: $130k – $160k base with uncapped commissions | $300k – $400k

About The Role:
This is a senior-level estimating role with a plan-and-spec mechanical plan and spec contractor. The position is responsible for leading complex commercial estimates from initial document review, to site walks through final bid submission, while supporting junior estimators and collaborating closely with preconstruction leadership.

The role blends deep technical estimating expertise with field exposure and team oversight. You’ll interpret engineered drawings, reconcile scope gaps, validate constructability in the field, and assemble competitive but profitable bid packages.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Lead detailed takeoffs and estimates for mechanical scopes including HVAC and plumbing
• Review construction drawings, specifications, and addenda to fully understand design intent
• Identify scope gaps or ambiguities and complete estimates using engineering judgment and constructability knowledge
• Perform site walks and field verifications to validate drawings, quantities, and installation assumptions
• Compile, review, and validate takeoffs completed by junior estimators
• Provide mentorship and quality control for 3–4 estimating team members
• Coordinate scopes and pricing with vendors and subcontractors to build complete bid packages
• Prepare clear scope letters and bid clarifications for general contractors
• Support estimate reviews and final bid strategy discussions prior to submission
• Provide detailed estimate handoff documentation to operations teams for project execution
• Maintain proficiency with estimating software, digital takeoff tools, and preconstruction technologies
• Maintain safety awareness and jobsite best practices during field visits

About You:

• Entrenched in the Columbus, OH mechanical construction community with design engineer and GC relationships
• Extensive experience estimating commercial mechanical projects in a plan-and-spec environment
• Comfortable working between drawings, spreadsheets, job sites, and bid reviews
• Strong understanding of GC bidding dynamics and scope risk management
• Deep working knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, and installation sequencing
• Professional, clear communicator with internal teams and external partners
• Trades background (HVAC, plumbing, sheet metal, or fire protection) is strongly preferred
